Reshaping Britain – NSEC 2011
4, March, 2011
200 enterprising students gathered last weekend to attend NACUE’s National Student Enterprise Conference 2011. Hosted by Manchester Enterprise Centre and Manchester Entrepreneurs Society, the conference took the delegates on a 2 day journey which focused on Reshaping Britain through enterprise and innovation.
Delegates heard from an array of speakers such as John Griffin (Founder of Addison Lee), Rich Martell (Founder of Floxx.com, former FitFinder), John Foong (Google), Steve Lang (Ernst & Young), Keith Sharp (TATA) and Houston Spencer (Alcatel –Lucent), as well as many other successful entrepreneurs, CEOs and industry professionals. Day 2 of the conference saw several students pitch their business ideas in front of a live audience, for their chance to win £1000 from Shell LiveWIRE awards.
“I was particularly impressed with the enthusiasm delegates showed for entrepreneurship, their maturity, and interest in learning and knowledge about social business. At their age, I think my knuckles were still scraping the floor, so it was a real inspiration for me to meet the next generation of business leaders.” Simon Evill, ClearlySo
“Students have never been so aware of the need to create, innovate and lead for success. This weekend brought students together to equip them with the skills and know-how to re-think, re-engineer and re-shape old models for a new economy. NSEC 2011 saw the growth of a new class of leaders, with new ways of doing business” Hushpreet Dhaliwal, NACUE
Having sold out, and then live streaming to calm the Twitter frenzy, the conference itself received spectacular reviews from sponsors, students and speakers alike. After NSEC 2011, there are 200 more students fired-up to develop their business ideas and brands.
NSEC 2012 is now but a year away, but we are certain that in the meantime, there is a great deal more to come from the UK’s student enterprise community. Do keep close watch.
