Cameron presented his party’s plans for the next five years if they are successful in 2015's next election.
The Prime Minister outlined a series of plans from abolishing youth unemployment, to cutting unemployment benefits and taxes for ‘hard working people’.
Cameron repeated throughout that he wanted to create “a Britain everyone is proud to call home.” Listening in on his speech we found a couple of things that stuck out to us such as youth unemployment and income tax cuts for Britain's lowest earners.
He acknowledged Britain as Europe’s most employable country stating that 1.8 million jobs were being created. The PM called for youth to make the most of their opportunities, with plans to cut down the number of people on unemployment benefit. Only those who frequent the jobcentre and are seen as actively seeking work will receive the benefit. Cameron said to those 21 and under: “No longer will you have the option to leave school and go on benefits. Learn or earn!”
“Here is a chance to make something of your lives.”
Cameron also said the Tories would scrap zero hour contracts to help remove injustice from the workplace. They also set out a commitment to scrap income tax for the lowest earners. Tax-free allowance would be raised from £10,000 a year and £10,500 by 2020. He added that it could only be done by cutting the deficit to put aside for the future. He explained: “We need tax cuts for hardworking people.” There will be no income tax if you’re on minimum wage and he will raise the 40p income tax rate to £50,000.
The Prime Minister wanted to let young voters know that the Tories could be trusted. He said: “This party is for the teenagers who want to make something for their lives. We will not let Labour drag us back to square one. We will finish what we have begun!”
