Enterprise society leaders and enterprise educators connected with the startup and corporate world for our annual Leaders Summit at Rise in Manchester. Leaders Summit gives us the chance to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our Member enterprise societies in university and colleges across the country.
This year, we wanted to give students the opportunity to share their activities with each other and to gain practical business experience by pitching for prize money. The 11 shortlisted societies were given 4 minutes to pitch, before facing some tough questions from our judging panel. The judges came from a variety of backgrounds but all shared the tricky task of choosing a winner in each category. They were Richard Young, Director of BVCA, Lee Adams, Director at Cantarus, George Bettany, Programme Director and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Ignite and Hailey Woldt, Global PR Manager at MassChallenge. The judges spent an hour deliberating before the winners were announced. These were:
Best University Enterprise Society
UCL Entrepreneurs
Best College Enterprise Society
Loughborough College Enterprise Society
Best Enterprise Society for Social Impact
Entrepreneurs Durham
Best Enterprise Society for Venture Creation
Oxford Guild
The winning societies have all taken home prizes from £1,000 - £3,000 to use on sustaining and growing their society this year. We were also pleased to recognise two outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond to support entrepreneurship at their institution. The winners were pre-selected by Dr. Jennifer Sheridan and announced this afternoon. These were:
Student Entrepreneur of the Year
Xavier Parkhouse-Parker - Fish on Toast, University of Southampton
Enterprise Champion
Shelley Raine - Gateshead College
Today we celebrated the fact that enterprise societies have truly reached new levels of ambition, scale and impact, and we celebrated the individuals who are spearheading this movement. This year, NACUE’s network of societies has reached new heights and no one represents this better than the winners of our annual society awards. From all of us here at NACUE, we would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who attended our 7th annual Leaders Summit. Every year it’s truly inspiring to gather together the leaders from our network and celebrate the amazing work that you all do. This year has been no exception.
We’ll be launching our Varsity Pitch Competition at the earlier date of 12th May. Whether you have the seeds of an idea or a fully fledged business, the Varsity Pitch competition could be the boost you need. Find out more here.
